Mia - DELACROIX LADY DARBANVILLE to HOUNDSBAY

Mia - DELACROIX LADY DARBANVILLE to HOUNDSBAY

Very sad news this morning. I had a text message early this morning from my good friend Donna at Kennel Houndsbay in the UK to say that Mia had bloated. Unfortunately the vets couldn’t save her.

My heart goes out to Donna and Jon because I know how much she meant to you. Mia was a wonderful, gracious girl and very loving.

Over the years that Donna and I have been friends I’ve come to hear all about Mia and when I’ve been in the UK I’ve managed to grab a cuddle with her myself. She was a splendid hound with wonderful colouring and a sweet nature.

Mia was was bred by Phil and Gary Hatter and went to live with Donna and Jon and the Houndsbay hounds in 2006.

As Donna herself says, “she was a once in a lifetime dog.” She’ll be sorely missed.

Rest, sweet Mia, let golden sleep
Charm your starbrighter eyes,
While my lute the watch doth keep
With pleasing sympathies.
Lulla lullaby, lullaby!
Sleep sweetly, Sleep sweetly,
Let nothing affright ye;
In calm contentments lie.

my heart aches for your friends; i know how hard it is to lose a hound. the last time one of our bassets passed, a friend reminded me that i should of course be sad, but also feel blessed for having had such a wonderful dog in my life. dogs [and bassets in particular] give us so much~ love, snuggles, laughs about their silly & sometime stubborn ways. mia was a gorgeous girl, and from your description, just a generally wonderful basset. donna & jon will be in my thoughts during this difficult time.
